A big start to 2024!

In addition to all the awesome Crag Care business happening up North (see our Hillwood post and Cataract Gorge posts). We've been busy down South too!

We started off the year with a cracker working bee at the Organ Pipes below the summit of kunanyi, the favourite crag for the Hobart area. With a good crew of volunteers and help from Hobart City Councils experienced track care workers we set to work firming up the area around Princess and the track leading around to Flange Buttress. With care we shifted the massive boulder which previously made for an awkward entry to the area. Now with a beautiful path leading to area the Pineapple Grass against the cliff will have a chance to stage a comeback. The new rock work around Princess not only provides a perfect belay platform but will save the area eroding over time. Thanks again to everyone involved!

Our next working bee took us to Bare Rock in the Fingal valley. Since our last working bee there had been lots of vegetation growth which is great to see but many tracks were VERY overgrown. Clear and obvious tracks were re-established to each of the climbing areas with the aim to condense foot traffic to a single track for each approach.

On the Winter solstice we had music night fundraiser at Rock It Derwent park. The night was a huge success, the music talent in our community was impressive and it was a great night to connect with others in the Crag Care community. A Huge shout out to the talented musicians; Ben French, Darlin' Dundas Duo, Lacosquillaband, Isaac and Deano!

And of course, thank you to Rock It Climbing Centre- Derwent Park for hosting us and to all of our sponsors for providing such tantalising raffle gifts!! Paddy Pallin, Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, Arc'teryx, Onemotion. Movement + Massage, Rock It Climbing Centre- Hobart, Odd Bodies Pottery, Dusty Days Chalk Bags.

Keep an eye out for more working bees to come. And if you’re yet to join us at one of our working bees, make sure to sign up to Wild Care and keep an eye out for the next working bee.
